Massacre of the Innocence

We were at midnight mass last year. Standing on the grounds of St. Andrews. The choir harking us to listen to heralding angels. When Mahia
[My now eight, then seven year old daughter] tugged at me and excitedly told me that she saw him. Who? Santa.

She saw Santa flashing through the night sky above Bandra in his sleigh pulled by reindeer. Her eyes sparkled with excitement and she was sure he was headed to our place to drop her Christmas present off.

Every year she’d missed him. She’d fallen asleep to find Santa had visited and left. There below the tree were the presents she’d wanted.

She knew that the Santa’s that she saw at Christmas parties or the mall or with carol singers were just actors. The real Santa was the one she always missed. Until now. A year went by. She came back from school one day and asked me ” Is there a Santa ? “

Why? Because her teacher told her that there is no real Santa. The great big Santa conspiracy that every parent is a part of was exposed. I’d fooled her these eight short years.

Mary saw the angel Gabriel. The shepherds saw choirs of angels with the heavens unfolded. The three wise men saw a star. On St. Andrew’s grounds on that Christmas night I

Was it a fire cracker? A stray shooting star ? A welding arc on one of the highrises ? Maybe. But through Mahia’s eyes , I saw Santa.

Christmas Celeb-rations

Bandra’s getting ready to get into the festive spirit so we decided to ask those who know how to party best (Bollywood ya) what they were doing this Christmas. And although most celebs have decided to turn their phones off this season, we got hold of some of Bandra’s hottest people to tell us how they plan to celebrate the festive season.

Christmas for me is all about family and friends. But here eople are more interested in partying on Christmas eve which is fun in its own way. But I won’t go out until my tree is fully decorated and glistening. As long as I’m with my loved ones that’s all that matters!

Normally we start Christmas preparations 3 days before. But this year there will be no big Christmas celebration. Christmas is all about celebration of life but with whatever happened recently, no one is in the right frame of mind.

carol-gracious-finalCAROL GRACIOUS

I’ll go to church and have lunch and dinner with my friends like every year. I hope Jesus blesses me with more and more happiness.

This Christmas will be pretty quite for me. I’ll spend some time with the family and there is a party I will go to. But it’s nothing big this year. I’ll probably be busy shooting as well.

Bonobo – Bar.Love.Food

bonobo1-finalYou might not know it, but you already have a lot in common with Bonobo. The latest entry into the Bandra nightlife scene is named after an endangered ape which has 98% the same DNA as us (yes even you).

Spread over 2800 sq feet, Bonobo comprises of an indoor area which plays host to the bar as well as an outdoor area, which is the bistro area (amazing view!). It is also India’s first ever interactive bar. What’s that you say? Well, they’ve got all the ingredients lined up and you get to make your own drink. Under the watchful eye of the bartender (they call him the mixologist) of course.

If you don’t feel so creative you could also let the mixologist make you one of his specials which include Passion fruit and curry, Apple and date, Pomegranate and Mint. The dining menu showcases the chef’s take on Eurocentric cuisine – from classics like spaghetti carbonara, and wild mushroom-saffron risotto to house specials of Pan Seared Rawas and more. And for dessert they’ve even got the hard to find Banana Toffee pie! Ps: Bonobos’ are always up for a good time… so, we know this place won’t let you down.

Christmas Social

carmels-finalOn the sixth day of Christmas your love may not be able to give you a six-geese-a-laying but they could get you a pass to a dance. Although most of the Christmas dances this year have been cancelled there are a few that are still up and running. So if you’re in the mood to dress up and put on your dancing shoes then head to Mount Carmel’s. The formal Christmas dance is inclusive of dinne and since it’s Christmas you have to be dressed up… properly! No jeans allowed. The best part is that you don’t need to have a partner to attend the event. A singles pass will cost you Rs.200 and if you are taking a date along it will be Rs.350. The evening will have a lot of classic music as well as festive carols. Around 150 people are already expected to come.Where: Mount Carmel Church Hall, Chapel Road, When:December 30th  7-11pm, Contact: 26421589
