The next

Plenty of

I feel the need,

Buy, Buy, Buy

The Bandra Fair is here and the rides and sweets are not the only things you can go for and buy. Here are some other unwanted things you just have to buy.

SAIL AWAY: I’m still not quite sure how the boats work but it’s always fun to watch.  Small metal boats which actually sail on water like a motor boat(it also sounds like one) and all you need to do to get it to move is light a little wick in its belly. Where: Outside Venus Bakery and the Mount

CHEAP CLOTHES: If you thought the clothes you bought on Hill road were dirt cheap, the Bandra fair has it even cheaper! With a wide variety for women but an abysmal amount for men. Though there are some macho belts available. Check out the stalls diagonally opposite Barista on Chapel road.

NAME ON RICE/KEYCHAINS: It’s been at the Bandra fair for years now and still continues to be a favourite among many. Just the fact that someone can write your name on rice is fascinating and with it being preserved in a tiny magnifying glass tube, well that just makes it a perfect impulsive buy.

TOYS FOR YOUR KIDS: The quality may not be all that good but you get them at a throw away price. Literally. You should keep an eye out for the ‘tomato-to ketchup-ketchup-to tomato’ guy. A plasticine tomato that does just what he said! Wohoo!

BUBBLES: As much as you would like to think you are all grown up, you just can’t resist when you see these guys blowing bubbles through the air. Deep down we all know it’ll be fun to blow those bubbles( it makes you feel young again).

Go For A Ride

What’s a fair without some good, fun rides? Yes, rumour has it that the Giants wheel rolled off many years ago. But, it has been pretty stable since. So, get on the rides! We bring you a list of five must try rides at the Bandra Fair. And if you do see the Giants wheel coming your way… Run!

GIANTS WHEEL: If you’re like me and you’re afraid of heights then this is the perfect way to face your fears. For others it’s fun to laugh at those like me who are scared senseless or those who scream for their life.

TORA TORA: Those who want to feel the speed and adrenalin that race car drivers or bikers feel can take this ride. And the best part is you don’t need a license and no one can stop you from going fast.

TEA CUP: This ride tests the strength of your strength of your stomach. The wheel will spin you round in one direction while the tea cup your in will spin you the opposite direction. (Warning: don’t eat anything before going on this ride and if you see someone who looks like he might puke, take the next round).

THE GIANT BOAT: Ok I never got what the thrill factor was in this ride. It’s one really big boat which swings from one side to another, similar to a pendulum of an old clock. This is one ride you need not go on but if your curiosity gets the better of you like it did me, I’ll see you on it.

Bandra Fare

It’s September. The only time in the year you can stuff yourself silly with food that is pink, oily, questionable, gooey and sweet, all on the same day. And then go on rides. InBandra brings you the top five things you must eat this Bandra fair:

SAUSAGE PAU: After a week of being tempted by it’s smell during mass, sausage pau is the one thing no one can resist during the Bandra fair. Spicy Goan sausage with onions is served in a soft pau for Rs.14. Where: Outside Mount Mary’s Church.

CANDY FLOSS: For Rs.15, there is nothing that says carnival food more than the happy, pink cloud on a stick. A note of caution: carry some wet wipes with you as things could get sticky…literally. Where: Mount Carmels Church

KADIO BODIOS: We aren’t exactly sure what they are… we’ve tried to understand their charm but we just can’t seem to put our fingers on it. You either love them or despise them, but you can’t ignore Bandra fair’s kadio bodios. Hard, sweet and the most likely candidate to chip your teeth. Where: Everywhere!

Kadio Bodio

SOFTIE ICE-CREAM: This is the only time Venus bakery puts up an ice-cream stall (it’s disappointing that they don’t do it more often). Chocolate and vanilla ‘softie’ served in a crisp, paper thin cone. Where: Opposite Kings Salon

SHEEKH KEBABS: Don’t believe rumors that the meat used is questionable. It’s not. And the sheekh kebabs you get at the Bandra fair are delicious, warm, and when served wit the hot, hot naan, utterly irresistible. For Rs.30 approximately you can get your fix of kebabs. Where: Outside Carmel View, opp Mount Carmels Church
