Bandra station recently had a face lift and for those who have to travel by train daily, this is welcomed sight. About 8 months ago, conservation architect Abha Narain Lambah along with Western railway undertook the restoration of Bandra railway station. Officials at the railways who supervised the restoration said, “We have put in a lot of effort and time and it feels good to have restored Bandra station to its rightful glory.” In order to do the restoration a number of redundant toilets and ticket counters were demolished and there’s also talk of redoing the interiors of Bandra station as well. The restoration work has cost a total of Rs. 40 lakh and from what we see, it’s looking beautiful already.
We spoke to a few people who travel by train regularly and got their opinion on the new look of the station:
GAYATHRI BHASKARAN “It’s more spacious and I like the old rustic feel it has now. But they can still improve it.”

“It looks a lot better and has become more convenient to use. The center archways are open and you don’t have to wade through hawkers to enter the station.”

“It’s finally back to the way it looked about 40 odd years ago. I’ve travelled by train then and still travel by train. It’s good to see Bandra’s heritage being restored.”
